Spanish Interpreter

Spanish Interpreter

With today’s ever increasing Spanish population the need for a Spanish interpreter has become very important. There are many industries that require the assistance of a Spanish interpreter and would surely be remiss if one wasn’t provided. It is in the best interest of all involved to make sure that a direct line of communication can be maintained in order to extinguish a potential volatile situation and to make sure that a language barrier isn’t the reason for a hardship.

An example of where a Spanish interpreter was needed and none was available.

Could you imagine if there wasn’t a Spanish interpreter in a major hospital? How would you be able to diagnose and treat even the smallest of ailments without a Spanish interpreter?  There was a case reported in USA Today about a woman that had to translate for her husband while their newborn was dying in her arms, here is an excerpt:

“DALLAS (AP) — Interpreting a doctor’s information for her Spanish-speaking husband was the last thing Barbara Rayes wanted to do as she held her dying newborn daughter.

“It wasn’t my job to interpret; that was taking away the few moments of her life that I had with her,” said Rayes. “It was an unfair burden at a time of true crisis in our lives.”

Nearly 15 years later, Rayes is trying to eliminate that burden for others by training Interpreters and Translators at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital”

I can’t imagine what this woman must have felt like, as she was torn away from her newborn in such a tragic time so that she could interpret for the hospital. It is just these instances that necessitate the availability of a Spanish interpreter. There is no excuse and no plausible reason that, in today’s racially tolerant society that a Spanish interpreter can’t be provided. It is our civic and moral duty to make sure that we at least provide the basic human rights regardless of the person’s ethnicity or racial profile.

This story was printed in 2006 and has spurred a relative degree of national awareness into the plight of Spanish speaking individuals with regards to proper treatment through the use of an ample communicative capacity. There is not only the need for a Spanish interpreter but there is an obligation for us to address the needs and concerns of most of our racially diverse population.
